I write to urge voters to contact their Maine senators — (207) 287-1540 or 1-800- 423-2900 — and their Maine representatives — (207) 287-1400 or 1-800-423-2900 — to ask them to support LD 1649, a bill to increase solar power in Maine.
Support for solar power helps every Mainer. It creates hundreds of jobs that cannot be out-sourced; it supplies energy companies with power at peak summer loads, when otherwise they would have to buy fossil fuel generated power at peak prices. The use of solar power helps to reduce global warming and air pollution. It also keeps your energy dollars in the state. Every dollar you spend on energy from fossil fuels goes out-of-state, instead of benefiting a local company.
LD 1649 is the creation of solar producers, power delivery companies such as CMP, solar industry workers, and town and state representatives. Call today to urge a yes vote on LD 1649. I encourage you to call Gov. LePage — (207) 287-3531 — to inform him of your support for solar projects in Maine.
A group of citizens have created a Bath CAT (Climate Action Team), to promote green initiatives for the city. Working to increase the use of solar energy in Bath is just one action we are taking. For further information on the Bath CAT, contact me, at adairdelamater@gmailcom.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
