A LARGE TREE BRANCH snapped off a maple tree and plunged several feet onto four vehicles in the Brunswick Police Department parking lot, causing at least $20,000 in estimated damages. Brunswick Police Cmdr. Mark Waltz said the branch damaged the marine patrol and animal control vehicles as well as a vehicle that he uses. A fourth vehicle owned by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency appears to have been totaled. The branch also struch a light pole that must be replaced. Waltz and Brunswick Police Chief Richard Rizzo guessed the branch was about 20 inches in circumference, about 25 feet long and 3,000 or 4,000 pounds. It fell from a height of about 20 feet. Waltz estimated damages will total between $20,000 and $25,000. Two of the four vehicles are out of commission.
