Lebanon Fire Chief Dan Meehan said Monday afternoon that there was no power to the area, and no one was living in the camper when the fire broke out. The investigation is ongoing.
The fire was reported at 1:14 a.m. Monday at Lucky Day Auto on Creamery Hill Road, just off Route 202. Firefighters arrived two minutes later to a major fire.
“The fire appears to have started in a camper trailer, and then very quickly spread to a large storage trailer adjacent to it,” said Meehan.
The tractor-trailer body was filled with vehicle parts, Meehan said, making access for crews inside difficult. The fire spread, consuming a car and an SUV that were in front of the camper.
Crews conducted an initial search of the camper for any possible victims who may have been inside, but the owner of the property said no one had been living inside the camper.
Shortly before the fire alarm was sent out by dispatchers,
Lebanon EMS crews drove by the dealership on their return from the hospital after responding to an 11:54 p.m. medical call. EMS crews said they didn’t see a fire when passing the area.
Firefighters from Sanford, North Berwick and Alfred provided mutual aide, and the Milton, New Hampshire, fire department provided station coverage.
The fire was declared extinguished at 2:19 a.m.
