
She was born in Camden, New Jersey on April 18, 1927, the daughter of Frank Sanville and Isabelle Virginia (Biddle) Bartolett Jr. Jeanne was educated at Haddonfield New Jersey High School, Westminister Choir College in Princeton, NJ and various teaching classes at the University of Maine.
During college, Jeanne performed with major symphonic orchestras – the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra under conductors, Srowkowski, Rodinski and Charles Muenchi. Jeanne was also a trumpet soloist. During that time, she recorded several albums featuring religious choir songs. After college Jeanne was chosen by the Methodist Church to tour Europe and visit Methodist Churches in Poland and Czechoslovakia. Since this trip was shortly after WWII, Jeanne saw the war’s devastation. She went on to tour through Switzerland and France.
Jeanne was later the conductor and Director of Education at the St. Petersburg, FL United Methodist Church, a soprano soloist and Quartet member of Haddonfield Presbyterian Church in New Jersey, as well as conducting church choirs in Bath, Damariscotta, and Augusta, Maine Methodist Churches. She conducted the Sheepscot Musical Arts Society for over 10 years along with many other church choirs. Jeanne was a music teacher in Woolwich, Maine; Garmisch American School in Germany; and Bristol, Maine. She was a retired clergy member of United Methodist Church NAFOMM.
On June 4, 1949 she married James W. Daniels. Jeanne and Jim had 5 children. Her husband, James, was a Methodist minister and Chaplain in the United States Military. They lived in West Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine and Germany through out their missions to the Methodist Church and serving in the military. While James was stationed in Germany, Jeanne was very active in the PWOC woman’s group. She served as vice president of the European conference for 2 years.
She enjoyed tole painting, gardening, sewing, ministries with women’s groups, listening to the Gaithers, solo singing, going to orchestral concerts and travelling. Jeanne took several trips to Germany on river cruises down the Rhine, and also travelled to Scotland, England and Italy.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chaplain James W. Daniels on May 9, 1996.
She is survived by three sons, James W. Daniels Jr. and his wife Elsie, of Fredericksburg, VA; Joel D. Daniels and his wife Lizz of New Boston, NH; and Jonathan F. Daniels and his wife Penny of Wiscasset; two daughters, Judy K. Umberger and her husband John of Roswell, NM; and Joyce D. Page and her husband Richard of Limington; one brother, Frank S. Bartolett and his wife Claire of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Patricia A. Perkins and her husband Jack of East Boston, MA; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Bath United Methodist Church on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2 pm, Oak Grove Ave., Bath. A private burial will be at the family cemetery in Wiscasset.
