LYMAN — State Police are seeking the public’s help in locating 49-year-old Michael Irving who reportedly rammed a State Police cruiser in Lyman on Sunday.

After reportedly striking the cruiser, Irving fled the scene and his vehicle was later found abandoned along an ATV trail near Lyman Elementary School, according to Maine Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.

Irving had been pulled over by a state trooper for an inspection sticker violation along Day Road, according to McCausland.

As the trooper was sitting in his cruiser to check on Irving’s identification, Irving put his vehicle in reverse, rammed the cruiser and then drove away, later abandoning it about a half mile away, said McCausland.

The trooper was not injured.

Irving ran into woods, said McCausland. A search with tracking dogs was conducted, but he was not found.

Irving is 5 foot, 11 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, with short brown hair and hazel eyes. Irving is a transient who frequents Old Orchard Beach, Portland and Biddeford, said McCausland.

Troopers plan to charge Irving with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated criminal mischief and eluding a police officer, he said 

The cruiser sustained over $1,000 dollars in damage to the front end, said McCausland.
