SACO — The Thornton Academy boys lacrosse team picked up a 14-7 win over the visiting Gorham Rams on Tuesday evening at Paul Hill Stadium.

Despite falling behind 3-0 early on, the Trojans would tighten the screws for the remainder of the way and put on a show.

C.J. Labreck led TA with five goals while Noah Edborg chipped in four. Thomas Levasseur would also get a hat trick, while Jack Webb netted a pair in the win.

Softball

Biddeford 6, Bonny Eagle 2

The Biddeford softball team played its final regular season game at Bonny Eagle on Tuesday and came out with a 6-2 victory over the Scots. The Tigers (7-9) will now wait to see who their opponent will be in the preliminary round of the playoffs.

The Tigers scored in the first as Abby O’Connor led off the game with a single, she was sacrificed to second by Amber Magnant and would later score on an RBI single by Katie Stewart.

Brook Davis singled home O’Connor in the second to make it 2-0.

Chantel Gagnon singled in the fourth and would score on an Alex Chase homerun to right center.

Stewart cruised through the first four innings as she had a no-hitter going into the fifth. The Scots broke up the no-hitter in the fifth on a double, but a perfect relay from Gagnon to Magnant to Chantel Perreault got the batter trying to stretch for triple out at third base.

Stewart singled in O’Connor in the sixth.

Chase and Stewart were repeat hitters for the Tigers. Davis had one hit and an RBI, but was intentionally walked three times.

Stewart pitched a complete game allowing four hits and striking out four for the win.

Sanford 8, Cheverus 5

Sanford would grind out an 8-5 win over the Stags on Tuesday.

The Spartans would get on the board in the first when a runner was walked in. 

Sanford would blow the game up in the third inning, getting seven runs on RBI’s from Skyla Nedeau, Grace Curley, Calagh Lim, Marli Wilson, Julia Allen and Abbi Blouin to secure the win.

Girls Lacrosse

Scarborough 14, Biddeford 13

The Red Storm would gut out a tight 14-13 win over the visiting Tigers on Monday evening.

The Tigers fought an uphill battle as leading scorer Paige Laverriere was lost to two yellow cards, while Grace Boisvert exited the game due to injury short after.

The two clubs were tied 10-10 with 15:21 remaining in regulation, and then would go score for score for the remainder of the game. 

After Biddeford’s Hailey Allen evened the score at 13-13 with 51 seconds left, Hannah St. Germain would net the game-winner with 13 seconds remaining to propel Scarborough to the win.

St. Germain led the Red Storm with four goals while Sydney Rusak and Ellie Smith added three each. Bethany Smel made 12 stops in the cage for Scarborough.

Peyton McKeown, Allen and Laverriere scored three goals each while Eliza Gilliam and Ella McKenzie combined for seven saves in the cage.

Sanford 20, Deering 11

The Spartans picked up a big 20-11 win to cap off the 2017 regular season over Deering on Tuesday.

Maddie Leigh and Delaney Tanguay led the Spartans with five goals each. Megan O’Connell and Valentina Drown added three goals each while Eva Belanger and Lauren LaPierre netted a pair of goals each.

Baseball

Traip 3, Old Orchard 1

Tied at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, the Traip Rangers would get a two-run single from Charlie Driscoll to take a 3-1 lead and ultimately the win.

Traip would take a 1-0 lead in the first, however OOB would quickly tie things up on an error.

Hunter Sawtelle got the win on the mound for Traip, while Matt Hurley took the loss for OOB. Despite the loss, Hurley had a solid outing, going seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits while striking out 11 batters.
