Janek Lukska drove in the winning run in the eighth inning as the Oxford Hills baseball team picked up a 4-1 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Mt. Ararat on Thursday.

In the regular-season finale for both squads, the Vikings finished 14-2, while the Eagles were 8-8 and likely slated to host a Class A North preliminary game next week.

Garrett Moody, who pitched Mt. Ararat to a quarterfinal win over Oxford Hills last season, again stymied the Vikings. He allowed an unearned run, struck out two, walked one and permitted just four hits in seven innings. Hunter Lohr pitched the eighth with one strikeout, one walk and two hits allowed.

Down 1-0 in the seventh, a fielder’s choice ground ball by Nick Merrill tied the game for the Eagles. Cam Cox and Lohr each singled twice to lead the offense, while Kaileb Hawkes and Kyle Brennan had a single each.

Colton Carson picked up the mound win for the Vikings, fanning 10 and walking three over seven innings. Lukska earned the save.

Softball

CAMDEN HILLS — Camden Hills scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the third inning as the Windjammers defeated Brunswick, 1-0, in KVAC action.

The Dragons (0-16) received a solid pitching performance from Shea Sullivan, who scattered five hits and walked one.

Emily Lang pitched for the Windjammers, tossing a five-hitter.

The Windjammers scored their run when leadoff hitter Nicole Brown singled through the shortstop-second base hole. Brown stole second and advanced to third on a pass ball before scoring on a wild pitch.

From there Sullivan was in control as she struck out six batters.

Brunswick had a scoring threat in the second inning when Margaret Dickinson singled with one out. Dickinson stole second and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice. The Windjammers threw across the diamond in an attempt to catch Dickinson. The ball glazed off from Dickinson’s shoulder, but alert left fielder Amanda McFarland backed-up the play and threw Dickinson out at the plate.

McFarland made another play in the sixth inning. Shelby Plourde reached on an error and advanced to second base with two outs. Sullivan followed with a blast to the left-center field gap that McFarland nabbed in front of the fence to end the threat.

OXFORD HILLS 7

MT. ARARAT 4

The visiting Vikings scored three runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 deadlock in KVAC play at Topsham.

Oxford Hills (11-5) was led by Lauren Merrill, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and scattered eight hits on the mound with two strikeouts and four walks. Erin Morton had three hits and scored a run, while Madison Day was 2- for-4 with an RBI.

Kate Guerin drove in a pair of runs during a three-run third inning that gave Mt. Ararat a 4-3 lead. Katelyn Cox and Zoe Stilphen each picked up two hits.

Alana Weaver pitched, allowing eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Mt. Ararat finished 10-6 and will likely host a Class A North prelim next week.

Boys lacrosse

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick completed a perfect regular season with a 22-10 KVAC win over Messalonskee at Bowdoin College.

Aiden Glover powered his way to eight goals in the win, while Max Gramins and Andrew Eno each scored four goals for the Dragons, 12-0 and scheduled to face Lewiston in the KVAC title game on Saturday at Thomas College in Waterville.

Austin Pelletier had five goals for Messalonskee (7-5).

Girls lacrosse

BRUNSWICK — Anna Davis scored five goals and dished out two assists to power Brunswick to an 11-2 KVAC win over Oxford Hills.

The Dragons finished 5-7 and are likely the No. 6 seed in Class A North, with a Wednesday date at No. 3 Lewiston in the quarterfinals. The Vikings finished 0- 12.

Jenna Brooks had two goals and two helpers, while Anna Callahan, Dina Murphy, Bronte Fontaine and Lila Solberg each picked up an assist.

Mikaela Aschbrenner had seven saves in the win.

Jade Smedberg and Jayra Bray had a goal each for Oxford Hills.
