LISBON

A Lisbon resident is being aided by the Red Cross after a fire Saturday afternoon.

Lisbon Fire Chief Sean Galipeau said a kitchen fire was reported at 6 Prince St., at 3:40 p.m. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to two rooms but the owner was displaced, he said.

Galipeau didn’t have the owner’s name, but the town’s online assessing information lists the property owner as Janet Devou.

The fire was caused by storage of combustible materials on top of a stove, Galipeau said.

Galipeau reminded the public that it is very important to close the doors to the rooms in your home. In this case, it probably saved the house, because the fire was deprived of oxygen.

A Red Cross Disaster Action Team is working with the homeowner to ensure they have food, a safe place to sleep and other necessities following the fire, according to a press release.

Over the next several days, the Red Cross will remain in contact with the individual to provide assistance and community referrals to help recover from the fire.
