Lois Vermette of Ward 1 in Sanford casts her ballot on Tuesday at Nasson Community Center in Springvale as Election Clerk Henry Berthiaume watches. Sanford’s ballot sought approvals on a $42 million state-funded expansion and renovation of the city’s elementary schools, asbestos removal projects and budgets. Many other York County communities had municipal votes as well. Polls were open in all Maine communities for a statewide referendum question. TAMMY WELLS/Journal Tribune
