CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carson Wentz threw three touchdown passes and Philadelphia held on down the stretch to beat the Carolina Panthers 28-23 on Thursday night.

Wentz finished 16 of 30 for 222 yards and connected twice with tight end Zach Ertz for touchdowns. His 24-yard pass to Nelson Agholor early in the fourth quarter gave the Eagles (5-1) a 28-16 lead.

Cam Newton led a 13-play drive capped by a 1-yard scoring pass to Christian McCaffrey, bringing Carolina (4-2) within five points. But a last drive came up short.

Newton finished 28 of 52 for 239 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions.
