A FIRE THAT DESTROYED A GARAGE on Poplar Drive in Brunswick Monday afternoon likely was caused by a generator malfunction, according to Brunswick Fire Chief Ken Brillant. The fire was reported at 7 Poplar Drive in Wildwood Estates at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday, 12 hours after firefighters had been responding to storm-related calls amidst regular calls. “We’re pretty confident that it was caused by a generator,” Brillant said Tuesday. There was some kind of malfunction while the generator was running in the garage and the owners heard a “pop.” They soon noticed the garage was on fire. The garage sits near the home and while the garage was a total loss, Brillant said the home was saved. Much of the siding melted off the back corner of the home. He estimated crews were on scene for a little over an hour. Bath and West Bath firefighters responded to the scene and Topsham and Lisbon provided station coverage. — Darcie Moore / Times Record Staff
