
The undefeated Brunswick High School girls basketball team made quick work of Cape Elizabeth on Friday night, dashing out to a 21-2 first-quarter lead and never looking back en route to a 72- 25 Class A South victory.
The Dragons are 8-0 heading into Tuesday’s visit to Lincoln Academy (6:30 p.m.), while the Capers fell to 3-4.
Brunswick led 37-10 at the half and 58-16 after three.
Charlotte MacMillan canned three 3-pointers and led all scorers with 19 points for the Dragons, followed by 17 points, nine assists and six steals from Marley Groat. Alexis Guptill added 10 points, eight boards and five steals.
Brooke Harvey paced the Capers with five points.

The host Falcons pulled away in the fourth quarter for a Western Maine Conference win over Old Orchard Beach on Saturday.
Freeport is 5-1 and visits Poland on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Seagulls led 13-11 after a quarter, but Freeport recovered for a 27-18 halftime lead. OOB drew to within three, 39-36 by the end of the third quarter.
Caroline Smith had 17 points in the win, while Allie Goodman picked up 16, Catroina Gould 11 and Jessie Driscoll eight. The Falcons were 6-of-12 at the free-throw line.
Brianna Plante paced OOB with 15 points.

Mt. Ararat earned its first Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win of the campaign, downing Lincoln Academy in Topsham on Saturday.
The hosts led 9-8 after a quarter before falling into a 17-11 halftime deficit. Mt. Ararat battled back, tying the game at 23 heading to the fourth.
Tied at 39, Lauren Sturgess hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left for the victory and a 1-7 record heading into Tuesday’s home contest with Morse at 5 p.m.
Sturgess finished with 11 points, while Ainsley Bryant led the way with 14 points. Both Sturgess and Bryant dished out three assists, with Grace Liedman and Abby Sirois hauling in nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Liedman added four steals.
Kaitlyn Feltis picked up a game-high 23 points for Lincoln Academy.
FALMOUTH 54

The visiting Yachtsmen started quickly and held off several Eagle challenges for a Class A South win at Topsham on Friday.
Falmouth led 16-5 after a quarter, but held a 35-23 edge at the half. Mt. Ararat outscored the Yachtsmen, 12- 9 in the third quarter to draw to 44-35. The Eagles cut their deficit to four points in the fourth, but Falmouth made 7-of-8 at the charity stripe to close it out.
Sturgess had a game-high 15 points for the Eagles and picked up four steals. Kyla Greenleaf chipped in eight points, with Theresa Breed pulling down 10 rebounds and Caitlyn Smith adding eight caroms.
Grace Soucy and Candice Powers each tallied 14 points for Falmouth.
At the free-throw line, the Yachtsmen were 12-of-19 while the Eagles finished 8- of-12.

After a solid start, the host Bobcats failed to keep up with the Mustangs in a Mountain Valley Conference tilt on Friday in Richmond.
The Bobcats are 5-4, with a visit to Dirigo slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Richmond led 10-8 after a quarter, but Monmouth (7-1) used a 19-10 second quarter for a 27-20 halftime lead. The lead grew to 36-26 after three.
Kaeti Butterfield scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the second quarter for the Mustangs, with Abbey Allen adding 11.
Sydney Underhill-Tilton paced Richmond with 11 points and 10 boards, with Bryanne Lancaster adding nine points and seven caroms.
Boys basketball
MONMOUTH — Zach Small powered his way to 33 points to lead Richmond to a 62-53 MVC win over Monmouth on Saturday.
The Bobcats (7-2) held quarter leads of 13-8, 26-18 and 40-29 en route to the win.
Small made 17 free throws as Richmond made 24-of-33 from the charity stripe. Matt Rines chipped in 16 points in the win, with Casey Gorman adding eight points. Danny Stewart had 14 rebounds, with Gorman adding seven caroms.
Connor Davies paced Monmouth with 13 points, while Gabe Martin added 12 and Dylan Lajoie 10.

Mt. Ararat locked down on defense in the second half en route to a KVAC win over Lincoln Academy on Saturday in Topsham.
Lincoln scored 19 points in the opening quarter for a 19-16 lead, but Mt. Ararat clawed back for a 32-29 edge at the break. The visitors drew to within one, 39-38, after three, but scored just six points in the final frame as Mt. Ararat (2-6) pulled away.
Ryan Mello had 16 points in the win, while Will Kavanaugh and Nick Merrill split 22 points. Mt. Ararat held a 27-24 rebounding edge.
Both teams struggled from the charity stripe, with Mt. Ararat going 2-of-6 and Lincoln 6-of-17.
Mt. Ararat hosts Morse on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Host Cape Elizabeth used an 18-7 advantage in the second quarter in Class A South action on Friday.
Trailing 14-10 after a quarter, the Capers (6-1) jumped ahead 28-21 at the half before extending their lead to 48-31 after three.
Andrew Hartel led the balanced hosts with 14 points, followed by 13 each from Finn Bowe and Tanner Carpenter.
Dawson Hebert had a game-high 15 points for the Dragons, who are 5-3 heading into Tuesday’s home date with Lincoln Academy (6:30 p.m.). Noah Cox chipped in 12 in the loss.

The visiting Eagles dropped their sixth straight in a Class A South matchup on Friday.
After a 10-10 draw through a quarter, the Yachtsmen (4- 5) used a 21-12 scoring spree in the second quarter for a 31-22 halftime lead. Falmouth added 27 more points in the third quarter, extending its lead to 58-42 heading to the fourth.
Sam Manganello had 20 points in the win, while Jack Bryant added 19, Nick Hester 18 and Alex Marcotte 11. Hester had 15 rebounds, and the Yachtsmen were 39-of-45 at the free-throw line.
Kavanaugh paced the Eagles (1-6) with 15 points. Greg Malin chipped in 12 and Mello had 10.
Mt. Ararat hosts Morse on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Pine Tree Academy was outscored, 23-8, in the third quarter as Old Orchard Beach pulled away for a win on Saturday.
The Seagulls (2-4) led 18-8 after a quarter, 31-21 at the half and 54-29 after three.
Ian Regan had 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists for OOB, with Mike Davis adding 13 points.
Chris Amisi had 22 points for the Breakers, who fell to 3-4 and visit North Yarmouth Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Jared Tamalea’a chipped in 15 points.
Girls hockey
BRUNSWICK — Lewiston/ Monmouth/Oak Hill jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and cruised to a 7-0 win over Mt. Ararat/Morse at Watson Arena on Saturday.
The Blue Devils are 11-0, while the Eagles fell to 0-9 and host Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic tonight at 8:15 p.m.
Grace Dumond had a pair of goals in the win, while Katie Poland, Jordan Mynahan and Hannah Levesque each had a goal and an assist.
Lily Schenk had 24 saves for Mt. Ararat/Morse.
Boys hockey
GORHAM — Caleb Rowland powered his way to two goals as South Portland/ Freeport/Waynflete claimed a 4-1 win over Massabesic/Bonny Eagle/Old Orchard Beach in Class A South action at the University of Southern Maine.
The Red Riots improved to 3-3 and visits Brunswick tonight at 6 p.m.
Bradley McMains gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the opening period, and Rowland doubled the lead in the second.
Ajay Cates scored for the Mustangs (1-5) to cut the deficit in half, but Rowland netted a power-play goal and Deven Hannan scored 21 seconds later for a three-goal edge.

Andrew Bertolini’s goal with 13:44 left in regulation broke a 2-2 tie and the Wildcats rallied from a two-goal and earned a Class B South win over Brunswick at Dover Ice Arena in New Hampshire on Saturday.
Bertolini added another goal with 4:57 left. Jake Nelson got the Wildcats on the board with a goal 9:23 left in the second period. Max Pickett’s goal with 1:51 left in the second tied the game at 2-2.
Brunswick (3-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period on a goal each from Jacob Doring and Aiden Snell, with Michael Deveaux picking up a pair of helpers. Netminder Riley Kirk turned away 20 shots in the loss.
The Dragons host South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete tonight at Watson Arena, with puck drop set for 6 p.m.
LEWISTON 10
EAGLES 1
Dustin Larochelle, Alex Robert and Jack LeBlond netted a pair of goals each as Lewiston peppered Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse in a Class A North tilt at Bowdoin College on Saturday.
The Eagles fell to 2-5 and host South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Cade Charron had 28 saves in the net for the hosts, and Cal Davies scored the lone Eagles goal in the opening period.
