Joan was born in New York on Oct. 16, 1952 to James and Esther (Ryerse) Little. She grew up on Long Island, where she attended local schools, graduating from Wheatley High School in 1971. She owned and operated her own restaurant on Long Island before moving to Maine in 1986. She held jobs in the restaurant industry as well as forming her own painting and papering company, before going to work for the Coca-Cola Company, where she was employed for several years.
Joan was an excellent cook, a talented cross-stitch maker, and a devoted mother. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and knew the words to every song she had ever heard. After being involved in a serious accident, she lived for many years at the RiverRidge Center in Kennebunk where she received excellent care. She was a woman with a spirited personality and quick wit, which always served her well. She will be dearly missed.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, by her husband Joseph Latinski, and by her brother, Raymond Little.
Surviving are her daughter, Laura Latinski of Springvale, and her sister, Kate Little Cryder of Connecticut.
Arrangements for Joan will be private, and are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
