York County foundation earns $45,000 in grants

The York County Community Action Corporation has been awarded three grants from United Way of York County totaling $45,000.

A two-year grant will support the corporation’s York County Transport program, which provides critical transportation to medical appointments for low-income York County residents.

York County Transport expects to provide at least 1,200 trips over two years.

A $10,000 grant will go to the York County Community Action Corporation’s Hope Fund and will be used to meet the needs of low-income York County households – either by addressing an immediate crisis or by positioning that household for greater long-term financial stability (e.g., a needed car repair that would help an individual commute to work and remain employed).

A one-year grant will support the York County Community Action Corporation’s Growing Access to Healthy Eating Resources program, which is the only such program in York County that provides monthly vouchers for people to purchase fresh produce.

The program also will help provide access to clinical appointments and nutrition education for approximately 125 individuals, an estimated 50 households, who identify as food-insecure or who need nutritional support to manage a chronic diet-related condition.
