Thank You, Hannaford

I’m sure Hannaford had customers who were tempted to complain at the lack of parking on Saturday morning, March 24. But they should know that there were many more who appreciated the ability to park and walk across to the Town Mall to gather in support of gun control, the protection of our youth, and the safety of our community.

It was a powerful rally, led by our children, uniting us as a region around an important cause. We are also Hannaford’s customers, and we thank them for sharing their parking resources on this occasion.

‘Scam Alert’

A huge multinational company, with a budget larger than some entire nations, is trying to con Maine taxpayers out of $45 million dollars. The scam plays on citizens’ fears about the economy and well-paying jobs, attempting to get us to dig into our very own checking accounts to pay them off. Yes, if our legislators are frightened into giving them this staggering amount of money in the form of tax rebates, we working people will pay for it out of our own pockets — the farmers in Arrostook County, the fishermen and woodsworkers in Washington County, and every taxpayer in the state of Maine will have to make up that lost income. Either we will pay more taxes to make up that $45 million, or we will suffer in the loss of important services. Beware!

Cote for Governor

As a resident of Brunswick for almost my entire life, and a student at Colby College, I know what an amazing place Maine is to live. But I also know that our state needs new leadership to grow our economy and ensure that young people like myself can find jobs and opportunity right here. That’s why I support Adam Cote for Governor.

As a 20- year veteran of the Army National Guard, with combat tours in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as 16 years of experience as a renewable energy entrepreneur and attorney, Adam is a proven leader. He has the skills and experience necessary to implement his 10-year plan to make Maine a national leader in renewable energy. By focusing on our abundance of renewable energy resources, Adam’s plan will not only help to reduce energy costs for Mainers, it can also create thousands of good jobs and make Maine a hub of innovation and technology leadership.

Many young people, like myself, want to stay in Maine after we graduate, but we feel as though we have to leave in order to find good jobs and opportunities. Adam understands both the importance of having young Mainers stay in the state and of attracting new talent to grow our economy. He wants to help make college affordable for Maine students, and find new ways to reduce college debt. In addition, Adam’s economic plan will create good jobs for young people, so we won’t feel forced to leave the state. He will present Maine as an open and inclusive state that welcomes people regardless of their race, religion, or who they love. His plan to make Maine’s broadband internet the best in its class will attract young people and businesses alike, and encouraging a vibrant creative arts, music, and food scene will only improve Maine’s quality of life.

This is why I support Adam Cote for governor. He has the plan and the leadership to make our state the best it can be, and I believe he deserves your vote in the primary on June 12.
