Police said a Boothbay man who went missing early Saturday morning has returned to his home in Maine.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said John F. Edwards, 75, drove to Massachusetts without apparently telling anyone where he was going.

Police issued a Silver Alert on Sunday after his wife told authorities he left their Tavenner Road home around 4 a.m. Saturday in his Toyota SUV. McCausland said in a news release that Edwards has shown early signs of dementia.

“He drove to Massachusetts and returned home tonight. That’s all I know,” McCausland said Sunday evening.

Edwards was reported to be in good health.
