FIREFIGHTERS battled a fire that destroyed a barn on Millay Road Saturday afternoon but kept the fire from spreading to another barn and to a nearby house. The blaze was reported shortly after 3 p.m. at 164 Millay Road. Flames were already ripping through the 80- year-old barn when the first firefighters arrived. The barn is a complete loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation. “It is believed it was an accidental cause but we’re still looking into it,” Bowdoin Fire Chief Tom Garrepy said. The barn belongs to Mason Shives, who praised the firefighters. “They got here fairly quickly and they’ve done an awesome job. I couldn’t be more thankful. I really do appreciate it.
