SACO — Delia Marie LeSieur, 88 of Saco, passed away on Oct. 11, 2018 at Bridges by Epoch in Nashua, New Hampshire.

She was born in Daigle, Maine, on Feb. 8, 1930, the daughter of the late Alcide and Emma Daigle.

She thoroughly enjoyed her lifelong career in nursing and was employed for many years at the Webber Hospital, and later at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine. She enjoyed working in the Maternity and Pediatric Units where she sought to comfort children in the neo-natal intensive care sections. She trained for her nursing career at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Maine, receiving her Nursing Diploma in 1953. In 1987, she attained her BSN degree from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.

She enjoyed taking care of, and spending time with her children. Delia especially loved spending summertime with her children on the shoreline beaches of Saco.  She was also an avid winter skier, and spent many weekends bringing her children to numerous Southwestern Maine ski areas.

After her children went out on their own, she shared her skills in medical centers across America and the world, which allowed her to travel extensively throughout Alaska, Hawaii, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, France, England, and Australia.  She immensely enjoyed hosting many of her foreign friends at her home in Saco, as they warmly accepted her invitations to visit the United States.

She eventually satisfied her lifelong desire to fly, taking many trips in her airplane around the northeast and Midwestern United States with friends and family.

She mostly enjoyed her later summers in her hilltop home in northern Maine, reminiscing about life on the farm where she grew up developing a sharp spirit of adventure, with great admiration for Amelia Earhart, her childhood hero.  She also spent many hours in the evening playing her violin. She shared stories of watching the new young pilots of World War II, skirting the hilltops and trees as they learned to fly combat formations, before heading off to the perils of war.  Little did she know her future husband was one of those boys.

Delia offers a fond farewell with the memories of her numerous colleagues and friends from countries around the world.

She is survived by her brother Norman and predeceased by her husband Paul, her siblings Gilman, Rosaire, Claude, Clarence, Armand, Rita and grandson Erik McMullen.

She is survived by her children Eugene LeSieur of Aloha, Oregon, Marie McMullen of Amherst, New Hampshire; Louis LeSieur of Saratoga Springs, New York, Julien LeSieur of Saco, and her four grandchildren; Lauren Albee, Mallory Leffler, Alex LeSieur, and Paul LeSieur, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
