The Westbrook American reported on Aug. 20, 1958, that Gene Waters of Westbrook was named captain of the Bowdoin College football team. Waters, son of Frank Waters, was a halfback. Philip Mailhot was chairman of Westbrook’s Democratic City Committee that opened a headquarters and would be staffed until Election Day.
Correction
Westbrook’s sustainability coordinator, Lynn Leavitt, said residents have become complacent in their recycling. Her comment was incorrect in an article in the Aug. 9 issue of the American Journal. Additional audits of the Friday pickup route will be done to monitor progress and the receipts from warning stickers will be kept on file at Casella.
