NORTON, Mass. — The Bowdoin College women’s lacrosse team returned to the win column in a dominating 22-3 non-conference win at Wheaton on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 3-3 this season while the Lyons drop to 3-5.

The Polar Bears left little doubt, scoring the first seven goals of the game in the opening 6:43 of the contest.

Eliza Denious scored three times in the run while Katie Miller added three of her own to give Bowdoin the early edge.

Bowdon upped its lead to 12-1 at intermission and rolled off the first five goals of the second half to extend their lead to 17-1.

The contest was in running time for the entirety of the second period as Bowdoin outscored the Lyons 10-2 in the second stanza.

Denious scored a career-high five goals to go with three assists and three ground balls in the victory for Bowdoin. Miller had four goals for the Polar Bears while Amanda Anderson added three.

Kara Finnerty had a goal, four assists and eight draw controls for Bowdoin. Erin Morrissey played the first half for Bowdoin without being credited for a save while Aaliyah Biondo made two stops in the second half for the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin held a 20-7 lead in draw controls and 34-9 advantage in shots for the game.

On Saturday, the Middlebury women’s lacrosse team scored nine consecutive goals to close out the first half and held on to the lead for a 21-18 NESCAC win over Bowdoin

The Polar Bears, who fell to 1-3 in the NESCAC, went up 8-3 in the opening of the game, but the sixth-ranked Panthers (4-1, 3-1) took a lead into the half and never relinquished control.

Bowdoin and Middlebury traded goals in the opening minutes, with Denious giving the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead before Jane Earley tied it 30 seconds later.

The Polar Bears went ahead 8-3 by the midway point of the first half, paced by three Denious goals.

Middlebury scored nine straight goals to close out the half, led by three from Earley.

Miller came out firing in the beginning of the second and scored for Bowdoin making it 12-9.

The Polar Bears pulled within two off Fiona Bundy’s goal at 23:38, but the Panthers went on a four goal run to extend their lead.

The teams traded chances through the remainder of the game, ending with a pair of last minute goals from Allison Williams and Bundy.

Denious paced the Polar Bears with four goals. Bundy and Miller each tallied a hat trick, while Finnerty dished out four assists.

Middlebury held a 39-29 shot advantage. Bowdoin won 24 draw controls to Middlebury’s 15.

The Polar Bears suffered 16 turnovers while the Panthers committed 11.

Bowdoin will return to action on Saturday when they host Trinity at noon at Ryan Field.

Softball concludes spring break with split

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team concluded its Florida trip with a Friday split against St. Olaf and Ramapo.

The Polar Bears return to Maine with an 11-6 record after falling 3-1 to St. Olaf (6-3), and defeating Ramapo (6-6) by a 10-1 margin.

In game one against St. Olaf, the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off an RBI single by Hannah Matthies and tacked on two more runs in the following inning as Emily Carr cranked a two-run double.

Bowdoin got on the board in the fourth as a bases loaded walk by Kasey Cunningham pushed Natasha Fingaracross the plate.

Allison Rutz suffered the loss with five innings of work and six hits allowed. The senior fanned three.

Kate Hoadley pitched two innings, allowing as many hits and two strikeouts.

Cunningham was the only Polar Bear to record a hit.

Cunningham and Karlye Pallotta both had a stolen base.

In game two against Ramapo, the Bowdoin offense came alive in game two and scored steadily throughout the six innings.

Rutz started the Polar Bears off with a two-run single down the right field line in the first.

Ruby Siltanen added two more with a homer to left center in the fourth.

Samantha Valdivia and Maddie Rouhana each tagged a double in the fifth, with Valdivia driving in Cunningham and Rouhana recording two RBI.

Ramapo’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth off a single to left.

Bowdoin iced the game in the sixth with three more runs. Valdivia had an RBI single and Rouhana added a sacrifice fly to left. Valdivia eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Siltanen earned the win with five innings of work and seven this allowed, while fanning five. Samantha Roy pitched one inning and recorded two K’s.

Pallotta, Valdivia, and Rouhana all had multiple hits.

The Polar Bears return north for a NESCAC series at Trinity beginning on Friday.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team used a five-goal run in the second quarter to erase an early deficit and defeat Bwodoin 14-9 on Saturday.

The Panthers move to 3-3 (2-2 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 4-3 (2-2 NESCAC).

Bowdoin led 2-1 after one quarter and extended their lead to 4-1 following goals from Jeff Powers and Sam Langan early in the second frame. Both Powers and Langan had three goals apiece.

The Panthers rolled off five straight games, from five different scorers, in a span of 2:04 to stun the Polar Bears and take a 6-4 advantage.

Bowdoin stopped the run with a goal from Jake Crossman, cutting the lead to 6-5, at intermission.

The Panthers took firm control of the game with four goals to open the third quarter, pushing the lead to 10-5.

Bowdoin could get no closer than four goals for the remainder of the contest.

Middlebury was led by four goals from Danny Jacobs.

Jack O’Connor made 16 saves and AJ Bravo forced three turnovers in the loss for the Polar Bears.

Middlebury’s Chris Midgley stopped ten shots and face-off specialist Jack Gould won 17-of-26 on the day to help spark the Panther offense.

Bowdoin returns to action Wednesday evening at Whittier Field against Endicott at 7 p.m.
