Abraham “Abe” Fineberg

SCARBOROUGH – Abraham “Abe” Fineberg passed away on May 24, 2021 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Abe was the oldest of three boys, born to David and Esther Fineberg on July 25 1927 in the Little Italy section of Portland. He spoke Yiddish and Italian before he learned English at North School. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Portland High in 1945. Then, it was off to the Navy! After his honorary discharge, Abe enrolled at Portland Junior College and received his associate degree.

In the early ’50s, he went to work for the Fire Department until he was injured in the H.H. Hayes Pharmacy fire. After his recovery, he worked as a supervisor for the Jayson Company for many years until the company was sold. He tried retirement, but eventually went to work at the Fineberg Company for another 10 years before retiring for good.

Abe enjoyed doing “roasts” for family and friends and spent many hours on his stamp collection. He enjoyed all Boston sports teams, especially watching his New England Patriots, to which we would call each other with a “Woo Hoo” after every touchdown!

Abe leaves behind the love of his life, Tama; his only surviving brother, Gerald; son, Lawrence Fineberg, daughter, Debra Fineberg-Finn; grandkids David Finn, Benjamin Finn, Morgan Fineberg and Lauren and Marshall Wade; great-grandkids Olivia, Leah and Noah Wade and Fiona Fineberg.

Abe was a member of Etz Chaim Synagogue, Temple Beth El, Jewish Community Center, Jewish War Vets and was a Master Mason.

Services will be held at Temple Beth El, May 28 at 11 a.m., then graveside at Temple Beth El Memorial Park, 1 Johnson Rd. Reception will follow at Embassy Suites. Arrangements entrusted to Portland Jewish Funeral Home.
