Free smoke alarms installed

New Gloucester Fire Rescue, in partnership with the American Red Cross and Building Livability in New Gloucester, is launching a new program to install 10-year smoke alarms in residents’ homes, free of charge.

The organization is looking for volunteers to help install the smoke alarms. An installation workshop will be held Nov. 12 and additional dates will be scheduled as needed.

Sign up to volunteer at the annual New Gloucester Fire Rescue open house and chicken barbecue at the fire station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14, where the Red Cross and BLING will have an information booth. Fire rescue is located at 611 Lewiston Road. Volunteers also can sign up at the public library. Residents interested in receiving one of the alarms can submit their request at the library, too.
