Peter Boroyan

SCARBOROUGH – Peter Boroyan, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born May 15, 1939, in Cambridge, Mass., Peter was known for his easy manner with people and a belief in living fully in the present. Friends, colleagues and customers often remembered him for a kind smile, patient attention and an unmistakable handshake that made others feel seen and heard, even if only for a moment.

Peter worked in car sales for more than 40 years, beginning his career in 1959. He started as a car jockey and worked his way into management roles before spending the final 22 years of his career as a sales consultant at Portland Volvo in Scarborough. He was known throughout his career for his steady presence and ability to connect with people.

A proud graduate of Arlington High School in Arlington, Mass., Peter later enrolled at Boston University to study business. He left school at the age of 20 to support his mother after his father became ill, a decision that shaped the course of his life and career.

His death was due to natural causes following many years of treatment for various physical ailments.

Peter believed deeply in the importance of the present moment, often reminding those around him, “Tomorrow is not promised. This leaves only one day — today. Anyone can fight the battles of just one day. Live in the now. Make the best of today.”

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Eloian of Scarborough; his son, Nathan Boroyan; and two grandsons, Asher Boroyan and Jordan Boroyan.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. Private services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28.
