Sandra L. Candelmo

WESTBROOK – Sandy passed away Jan. 27, 2026. She was born on Feb. 6, 1947, in Portland.

She raised her family in South Portland, moved to Venice, Florida and returned to Westbrook, to be closer to family.

Sandy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, animal lover, and friend whose warmth and fierce love defined her life.

Sandy is survived by the love of her life, Dominic, her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 62 years. Their marriage was a true love story built on friendship, loyalty, laughter, and a lifetime of shared memories.

She is also survived by her middle son, Michael Candelmo, and his wife Cristina, who reside in Masinloc, Philippines, and by her youngest child, Kim Powers-Candelmo, and her husband Julien, of Westbrook.

Sandy cherished her grandchildren deeply: Anthony “Tony” Candelmo and his wife Bridget of Windham; Mikey Sancris Candelmo and Prince Sander Candelmo of Masinloc, Philippines; Gabriella Murphy of Fort Stockton, Texas; Nicolas Marstaller of New Gloucester, and her absolute beloved “partner in crime,” granddaughter Nina Candelmo, and her partner Cameron Lee of Westbrook. Sandy was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Tristen, Zoi, Hali, Colton, Desmond, and Elio, each of whom brought her such pride and joy.

Sandy shared a special and enduring bond with her daughter-in-law Michelle Cyr, and Michelle’s husband Paul, of Cape Elizabeth.

Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved oldest son, Richard Thomas Candelmo, who passed away in 1984 at the age of 19.

A lifelong animal lover, Sandy was never seen without some sort of pet by her side anything from snakes, ferrets, ducks, and chickens to the many cats and dogs she loved and rescued over the years. She is survived by her current beloved fur babies, Moxie and Josie, who brought her constant companionship and love.

Service will be held on Sunday Feb. 8, 2026, at 1 p.m., at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home at 660 Brighton Ave. in Portland. We are asking guests to wear their New England Patriots fan gear. It’s not required but appreciated by Sandy.
