Myrtle Goodwin
KENNEBUNK – Myrtle Goodwin, 98, passed away Sunday Feb. 1, 2026. She was born March 7, 1927 in Castle Hill to Phineas F. Ellis and Mildred (Chandler) Ellis. She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute Class of 1944.
She attended nursing school, worked for the Ingraham Company in Connecticut supporting the war effort testing timers for bombs and then graduated from Central School of Hairdressing and Beauty Culture in Augusta.
Myrtle married Myron Goodwin of North Berwick in 1948 and was married 77 years. They moved to Kennebunk in the early ’50s and remained there for over 70 years.
Myrtle was active in Grange and her community. She worked hard for many years to support her children in their roadside vegetable stand business on Route 35. She encouraged and guided the business operations. Only the most perfect of veggies were sold! In her later years, she continued growing and selling on a smaller scale.
She read the newspaper daily, keeping up on current events. She had a keen interest in nutrition and health, liked to enter contests, write letters, Maine history, weather, geography, and genealogy. She collected old bottles, stamps, coins, and maps.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Myron; and her brother, Malcolm P. Ellis.
Myrtle is survived by her sister, A. Elaine Hotham of Presque Isle; her two children, Alan M. Goodwin and wife, Anne (Faulk) of Potsdam, N.Y., Anne E. Lisherness (Goodwin) and husband Dennis Lisherness of Madison; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank the team members of Heron House for their excellent care, compassion and friendship given to Myrtle over the past five years as well as the Affinity Care Team.
Friends and family are invited to attend Myrtle’s committal service Tuesday, May 12, at 1 p.m., Southern Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., Springvale.
