Susie Allen

SOUTH PORTLAND – South Portland resident, Susie Allen, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with family at her side. She was laid to rest at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth on June 6, 2026, following a private service.

Born to Leonard and Grace Griggs of Bradford, Vt., in 1939, Susie was a devoted wife to late husband Earle, and a loving and selfless mother to their three children. Smart, funny, and loyal to a fault, Susie’s diminutive build and gentle demeanor belied her quiet strength and unflinching determination to overcome any challenge.

Never one to draw attention to herself, Susie adored the simple pleasures in life, such as gardening and reading. In recent years, she loved pampering her beloved cat, Sammy, and feeding the birds and chipmunks over a cup of coffee in the mornings. But her greatest joy was spending precious time in the company of her family and friends. A longtime member of the South Portland Church of the Nazarene, she lived her faith quietly by showing compassion and kindness to those who crossed her path along the way.

Most importantly, Susie was kind, generous, and a good listener – those who were fortunate enough to be in her orbit could always count on her encouragement and support. She showed up for people, shared their joys and sorrows, showed her love in countless small, thoughtful ways. She was always there, would always listen and offer encouragement or share in a happy moment.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband Earle Allen; and her sisters, Sharon Slack and Joyce Goodine. She is survived by her son, Thomas Allen and wife, Tina; daughter Laurie Allen and partner Brian Carroll; daughter Katherine Duperre and husband Richard; and grandchildren Patrick Allen and wife Stefanie; Kelsey Jones and husband Gavin and their two sons, Wyatt and Ridge; Jessica Deschenes and husband Kyle, and their daughter Ellira Jo; and Bradley Duperre.
