Sandra E. Castonguay
WESTBROOK – Sandra E. Castonguay, 83, died peacefully at her home in Stroudwater Lodge on Thursday, June 4, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Hartford, Conn., on Nov. 24, 1942, the daughter of Albert and Irene (Cyr) Sirois.
Sandra graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren, Maine, in 1960, where she was President of her class. She then attended Husson College and worked as a medical secretary in Bangor. In 1963 she married Roger Castonguay, also from Van Buren. They lived in Bangor where they had their son, Mark. They then they moved to Salem, Mass. where Lisa was born. They then moved to Peabody, Mass., Lewiston Maine, settling in Scarborough.
While in Maine, Sandra volunteered for over 22 years with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, playing a leadership role in many areas, including as President. She also served on the Hospitality Committee and Snowball Committee as well as volunteering in the Auxiliary’s gift shop. In 2007, she was awarded the Scanlon Award for exemplifying the volunteer spirit of outstanding contributions of time, energy, enthusiasm and over 1,700 hours of volunteer service.
Sandra worked for a period of time at The Dancing Elephant clothing store in Portland. She enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, sailing, and was involved in a bowling league at the Big 20 Bowling Center. She had many friends and enjoyed the beach, music, dancing, entertaining, traveling and was always up for an adventure.
Sandra was a loving “Mimi” to her three grandchildren and was a wonderful mother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.
Sandra was predeceased by her husband, Roger Castonguay, in 1991, while they lived in Scarborough. She is survived by her son Mark Castonguay of Brunswick and wife Stephenie, a daughter Lisa Casper of Windham and husband James; a brother Gary Sirois of Weeki Wachee, Fla. and wife Debbie, a sister Barbara Levine of Yarmouthport, Mass. and husband Steve; and three grandchildren Todd Casper of Auburn, Sara Casper of Essex Junction, Vt. and Jordon Castonguay of Burlington, Mass.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 13, 2026 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco followed by a funeral mass at 1 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, 6 Saco Avenue, Old Orchard Beach. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
