Frances M. Cawood

BUXTON – Frances M. Cawood, 101, of June’s Way, passed Friday July 24, 2026 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

She was born in Portland on July 18, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Mary Lambert Winter. She graduated from South Portland High School.

Frances did attend the Standish Congregational Church where she sang in the choir. She most recently was a member of the West Buxton Baptist Church. Frances was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Standish and South Portland.

She was a real estate agent with Flaherty Reality in Falmouth. She later was employed with Shaw’s, Buxton Post Office, and worked in the cafeteria in Falmouth and MSAD 6.

Frances enjoyed making quilts, sewing, knitting and wintering in Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Sr. in 1997; and a great-grandson, Malakai, in 2016.

Survivors include four sons, Stephen Cawood of Cornish and wife June, Lewis Cawood Jr. of Florida and wife Ruth, James Cawood of Baldwin and David Cawood of Standish; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday July 30, at the West Buxton Baptist Church, 82 Parker Farm Rd., Buxton. Pastor Trent Boyd will officiate.

Burial will be at a later date at the Central Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Augusta, with her husband. Lewis Sr.

Dennett, Craig & Pate, Bar Mills are entrusted with her services.
