AUGUSTA — Thousands of Maine households are without power after severe thunderstorms tore through the state.
Utility crews are working to restore service to more than 17,000 customers.
Bangor Hydro reports that the storms on Friday night took down power lines and tree limbs across Penobscot County and that the damage was widespread.
The utility is warning customers not to touch or try to remove fallen power lines or trees near them.
Central Maine Power has more than 4,400 customers in Somerset County and 3,200 in Androscoggin County without power on Saturday morning.
