Cheverus’ Seeds of Peace
Cheverus High School students have been selected to attend this summer’s Seeds of Peace leadership conference. Sophomores Caroline George, Anna Niedermeyer and Eva Niedermeyer, and juniors Nicholas Jensen, Lisette Labbe and Katherine Randall will attend.
The Seeds of Peace program was founded in 1993 by journalist John Wallach. The mission of the organization is to inspire and equip new generations of leaders from regions of conflict with the relationships, understanding and skills needed to advance lasting peace. Beginning with only 46 American, Egyptian, Israeli and Palestinian teenagers the first year, Seeds of Peace has expanded its programming to include young men and women (its “seeds”) from across the Middle East, South Asia, Cyprus and the Balkans.
The Cheverus students will join others from across the world to attend the Seeds of Peace International Camp on Pleasant Lake in Otisfield, Maine. The camp provides a three-week conflict-resolution program where these young men and women will face their prejudices and fears and address the issues that fuel hatred, violence and oppression. Students live together in bunks, share meals, play sports, and engage in group sessions about their political conflicts, facilitated by adult counselors.
