ORONO – Hannah Keating scored the go-ahead goal with 57 seconds left in regulation Monday, and the University of Maine extended its hot streak with a 3-2 field hockey win over Brown.

Nicole Sevey and Elke Jacobse scored less than two minutes apart midway through the second half to give the Black Bears (9-5) a 2-1 lead. Brown (3-7), which led 1-0 at halftime, tied the game with 3:31 left.

Jacobse assisted on the winning goal, helping Maine to its eighth win in the last nine games.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

SAINT JOSEPH’S 2, MOUNT IDA 2: Danielle Daigle scored the equalizer on a header off a cross from Lizzie Calnan with 2:45 left in regulation as the Monks (5-4-2, 2-4-2 GNAC) played to a draw against Mount Ida (3-8-1, 1-7-1) at Standish.

Saint Joseph’s opened the scoring on a goal by Megen Pollini in the 20th minute. Mount Ida tied it less than four minutes later and took a 2-1 lead 3:20 into the second half.

Jaci Lorenzen finished with eight saves for the Monks, who had a 31-11 advantage in shots.

 

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C 1, CENTRAL MAINE C.C. 1: Casey Garrapy opened the scoring for the Seawolves (5-5-1, 4-3-1 YSCC) in the 58th minute, and Corrina Kinder got the equalizer 16 minutes later for Central Maine Community College as the teams played to a draw at Auburn.

SMCC keeper Erica Desjardins made 11 saves. Maggie McConkey stopped 13 shots for CMCC.

MEN’S SOCCER

SAINT JOSEPH’S 1, ANNA MARIA 0: Zach Johnson scored on a shot from the left wing off an assist from Fabrice Iraduha in the 18th minute, and the Monks (6-6-2, 4-3-1 GNAC) held on for a win over Anna Maria (2-10-1, 0-7-1) at Paxton, Mass.

Scott Benner finished with five saves to record the shutout for the Monks, who outshot the Amcats 34-14.

 

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 3, CENTRAL MAINE C.C. 0: Kyle Ehler scored two goals and assisted on a goal by Bojan Sikima as the Seawolves (9-4, 9-2 YSCC) did all their scoring in the first half in a win over the Mustangs at Auburn.

Dakota Bush made three saves in 75 minutes, and Robby Griffin stopped one shot in 15 minutes for the Seawolves.

FOOTBALL

GEORGIA TECH: The Yellow Jackets fired defensive coordinator Al Groh, two days after they fell to 2-4 with a 47-31 loss to Clemson.

Groh, a former New York Jets head coach, was in his third season running Georgia Tech’s defense.

 

OREGON STATE: Quarterback Sean Mannion will have knee surgery and is out indefinitely after getting hurt during the No. 10 Beavers’ victory over Washington State on Saturday.

Backup Cody Vaz will start for the Beavers (4-0) when they play BYU on Saturday.
