WESTBROOK — The city will now appoint, rather than elect, its city clerk — one of several changes approved by voters Tuesday.
Residents voted 5,864 to 2,539 to make 10 changes to the city’s charter.
The other changes include eliminating party affiliations of City Council and School Committee candidates on the ballot.
Also, councilors, who were previously elected to two-year terms, and school board members, who were previously elected to four-year terms, will now have terms of three years.
The changes were recommended by the nine-member Charter Commission. Voters had to approve all of the recommended revisions or none of them.
