CUMBERLAND — Robert Shaw “Bob” Logan, 79, died Sept. 16 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
Born in Cumberland on Jan. 12, 1931, to William Jarvis Logan and Doris Shaw Logan, he graduated from Greely Institute in 1949.
In 1951 he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in Nome, Ala., and in Limestone, until he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
After the service, he worked at Southworth Machine and at Houghton Arnold, where he met and married Paulina Hollivan in 1959.
He started his own business, The Village Smithy Gift Shop, which later became Logan’s Antiques.
Later on, he worked in furniture restoration and craftsmanship.
His love of antiques and restoration was shown in his hobby of restoring vintage cars, especially his 1941 Chevy pickup which was featured in a number of local parades.
In later years, he became an avid golfer, occasionally playing twice a day as a member of Val Halla.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Loretta Buhelt and Janette Gilfillan.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Polly; his five children, daughter Jane and her husband Pete Peterson of Portland, daughter Julie Logan of Yarmouth, son Steven and his wife Beth Logan of North Yarmouth, daughter Patricia and her husband Mark Leeman of North Yarmouth, and son Tom and his wife Christine Logan of Windham; and his five grandchildren, Michael and Justin Leeman, Matthew Logan, Madisyn and Joshua Logan.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22 at the West Cumberland Methodist Cemetery.
