The winter sports season continued last week in the Mid-Coast. 

Here’s a glimpse at the results:

Boys’ basketball

Brunswick’s boys’ basketball team started with victories over host Morse (43-37), visiting Mt. Ararat (70-57) and visiting Falmouth (51-39). The Dragons were back in action Tuesday at Lewiston. Brunswick hosts Biddeford Friday and is at Lawrence Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat won, 74-50, at Leavitt in its first game, then lost at Brunswick (70-57) and Kennebunk (84-60). After going to Edward Little Tuesday, the Eagles host Lincoln Academy Friday.

Morse sandwiched losses at Brunswick (43-37) and Westbrook (66-26) around a 65-52 home victory over Lincoln Academy. The Shipbuilders were home with Medomak Valley Tuesday and play at Freeport Friday.

Girls’ basketball

On the girls’ side, defending Class A South champion Brunswick started by defeating host Morse (88-17), visiting Mt. Ararat (73-28) and host Falmouth (54-27). The Dragons were home with Lewiston Tuesday and go to Biddeford Friday. Lawrence pays a visit Wednesday of next week.

Mt. Ararat started with losses to visiting Leavitt (66-37), at Brunswick (73-28) and at home to Kennebunk (48-20). The Eagles hosted Edward Little Tuesday and visit Lincoln Academy Friday. 

Morse also started 0-3, losing at home to Brunswick (88-17), at Lincoln Academy (39-25) and at home to Westbrook (44-24). The Shipbuilders were at Medomak Valley Tuesday and host Freeport Friday. 

Hyde started with losses at Islesboro (62-16) and at home to North Yarmouth Academy (53-30). The Phoenix return to action Jan. 6 at Pine Tree Academy.

Hockey

On the ice, Brunswick’s boys started with a 4-3 loss at South Portland, then downed visiting Cony (4-1) and Mt. Ararat (3-2). The Dragons were at Greely Tuesday.

Mt. Ararat/Morse/Lisbon opened with losses to visiting Poland (11-2) and at Brunswick (3-2). After going to Yarmouth Tuesday, Mt. Ararat/Morse/Lisbon is at Lawrence Saturday and plays at Kennebunk Wednesday of next week.

On the girls’ side, Brunswick was 2-5 at press time after a 4-2 home loss to Biddeford and a 3-1 home win over Mt. Ararat/Morse. The Dragons are idle until Dec. 29 when they go to Yarmouth/Freeport.

Mt. Ararat/Morse fell to 0-6 after a 3-1 loss at Brunswick Friday. Mt. Ararat/Morse goes to Gorham Friday of this week.

Indoor track

Mt. Ararat’s boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams each came in first in a season opening league meet.

Brunswick’s boys won their opening meet, while the girls came in third. 

Morse’s boys placed ninth and the girls were seventh in the opening meet.

Swimming

Mt. Ararat and Hyde met in a season-opening swim meet. The Eagles girls won, 126-25, while the Phoenix won the boys’ meet, 48-44. Mt. Ararat’s girls then defeated Waterville/Winslow, 96-74, while the Eagles boys lost, 99-56.

Brunswick’s boys beat Lewiston, 90-64, in their opener, while the Dragons lost to the Blue Devils, 95-70. 

Morse opened in a three-team meet against Messalonskee and Maine Central Institute. The Shipbuilders boys and girls came in first. 

Wrestling

The Mt. Ararat/Brunswick wrestling co-op team hosted Oceanside and Oxford Hills last week. Mt. Ararat/Brunswick beat Oceanside, 54-15, and lost to Oxford Hills, 54-21. Mt. Ararat/Brunswick went to Medomak Valley Wednesday.

The Morse/Wiscasset co-op squad won its first two matches, 63-6 over Lincoln Academy and 52-30 over Medomak Valley.
