Lighthouse group revamps website
The Spring Point Ledge Light Trust, which maintains and preserves the
Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in South Portland, invites you to visit the group’s newly designed website.
Located at www.springpointlight.org, the website offers visitors a virtual tour of the lighthouse from top to bottom; a comprehensive history of the lighthouse and its keepers; and information about volunteering during the summer season. Visitors can also view a list of open house and other events, along with an interactive calendar.
The lighthouse is located on the breakwater at Fort Preble on the campus of Southern Maine Community College. It is one of the few lighthouses open each weekend from June to September, offering the public a unique opportunity to explore the interior of a working lighthouse.
Historical society seeks volunteers
The South Portland Historical Society is seeking volunteers to man its museum at Bug Light Park. The museum is open daily from May through October. Work as a museum guide or in the gift shop. All necessary training is provided. Volunteers are asked to cover one three-hour shift each week. Those interested in helping out should call 767-7299.
