Celebrating textiles at Scarborough Library
On Saturday, March 22, 10:30-3:30 p.m., the Scarborough Public Library will host its third annual Textile Day.
Baskets of raw wool and yarn, spinning wheels, looms, crochet and rug hooks, knitting, embroidery and felting needles will all be on display as Maine’s premiere textile artisans gather to demonstrate an array of fiber art techniques.
Ongoing demonstrations and hands-on activities will be offered throughout the day. In addition, many of the original works and project kits on display will be available for purchase.
Yarn storming displays created by the library’s knitting group will also be on display. Textile Day is a fun way to celebrate public art at the public library.

‘Living in Maine’ on tap at library
The next Friends of the Scarborough Library Literature Series event, entitled “Living in Maine,” will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m.
The evening, which is free and open to the public, will feature Maine author Jennifer Wixon, who is a farmer and Quaker minister. She’ll talk about her Sovereign book series, which is set in the small Maine town of Sovereign.

Cape Elizabeth Lions offer meals
The Cape Elizabeth Lions Club will host the following meals this spring at the Bowery Beach Schoolhouse at the corner of Two Lights and Wheeler roads.
• Saturday, March 22, 5:30-7 p.m. Spaghetti supper. Spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert and beverage. $10 per person or $5 for children 12 and under.
• Sunday, April 13, 7:30-11 a.m.
Pancake breakfast. Pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage and beverage.
• Sunday, May 11, 7:30-11 a.m. Pancake breakfast. Pancakes, French toast, eggs, sausage and beverage.
Soccer booster’s pancake breakfast
On Saturday, March 22, 7:30-11 a.m., the South Portland High School Soccer Boosters will host a pancake breakfast at the First Congregational Church on Cottage Road. On the menu are pancakes, bacon, coffee and orange juice. The cost is $5 per person, with a $20 maximum for families. Seniors and kids under 12 are $3.
Land trust seeks artists
Friday, March 28, is the deadline for artists to submit their applications to participate in the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust’s 7th annual wet-paint auction, entitled “Painting for Preservation.”

Family Bingo night
On Friday, March 21, 6:30-8 p.m., the South Portland Parks and Recreation Department will host a Family Bingo night event.
Because space is limited, pre-registration is required. Register at www.southportland.org, by calling 767-7650 or in person at the Community Center. The cost is $5 per person. A parent or guardian must accompany all children in grades 5 and under. Register by March 14 in order to ensure your participation in this fun program.
A magical night
On Friday, March 21, at 7 p.m. Cape Elizabeth High School will host the Norman Magic Experience. Tickets, which are $5 for students and $10 for adults, are available at the high school office.
The Gym Dandies of Scarborough, which is the largest children’s circus in the United States, will perform live March 20 and 21 at the Scarborough High School starting at 6:30 p.m. The audience will be treated to 160 unicyclists, jugglers, globe walkers (seen above) and clowns all displaying amazing abilities. Doors open at 6 p.m. Adults tickets are $5, senior citizens are $4, school-aged children are $3. Pre-schoolers are free. For more information, see www.gymdandies.org.
