(Kid concentrating on painting) Eight Corners School first-grader Jacob Pinkham concentrates on painting a clay tile at Glazey Days studio during a school field trip Dec. 15. About 100 kindergartners, first- and second-graders from the Scarborough school created designs in art class, said art teacher Kari Flannery, then walked to the nearby pottery and ceramics studio to transfer their designs onto tiles. The studio’s owner, Shannon Hay, donated a tile to each student, use of her space and then firing the pieces. Behind Jacob, his teacher, Sarah Wood, consults with one of his classmates, Darius Tatum. Teachers and parents said the experience was especially appreciated in light of school budget cuts that have restricted field trip funds.
