Help Needed
In Windham, as in many of Maine’s towns, volunteers provide the knowledge and make decisions as to the town’s future. The town is seeking individuals to serve on several council-appointed boards and committees including the Assessment Review Board, Dundee Park Advisory Committee, Library Board of Trustees, Natural Resources Advisory Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, alternate for the Planning Board, Public Easement Advisory Committee and Windham Economic Development Corporation. Go to www.windhammaine.us for an online application submission (click Applications & Forms).
A printable form is also available by selecting Committee Application Form on the Government submenu. Call the office at 892-1907 if you prefer to have an application faxed, emailed or mailed to you. Applications will be accepted in the town manager’s office until all positions are filled. Forms should be submitted to the town manager’s office at 8 School Road, by email to [email protected] or faxed to 891-1910.
Stone Walls, Good Neighbors
Local historian Ray Philpot will present a program about stonewalls at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 28, at the Windham Historical Society on Windham Center Road. A longtime member of the society, he has been researching the history and location of these unique structures, many of which enclose the oldest cemeteries and also divide property. Refreshments will follow the program. There is no cost but a $5 donation is suggested. All proceeds help the nonprofit organization continue its expansion and educational programs for the public.
Free Meal
On Saturday, July 26, from 4:30-6 p.m., a free New England boiled dinner with corned beef, casseroles, salads, chicken noodle soup and desserts will be served at the Christ Chapel, 37 Northern Pines Road, Raymond. This is open to surrounding communities and all ages are welcome.
Local Adventures
Windham Public Library has six passes, which are available in the Children’s Room, thanks to the Friends of the Library. Take a trip back in time, visit a state park, explore a museum, enjoy swimming and picnicking at a great local park, see wildlife up close or gaze at the night sky in a dome by using a pass to get a great deal. For more information, visit the library and pick up a flyer. The library is at 217 Windham Center Road, call 892-1908.
