Cape Elizabeth track
Coach Doug Worthley said that the Capers would be fielding a young boys track team this spring. But, despite the large number of newcomers, Worthley said he believes the new athletes will mesh with the returning athletes to make a strong team.
“Sophomore Brenden Shields will lead the sprint team along with junior Mike Wilson and a lot of newcomers,” Worthley said. “We have mostly freshmen and sophomores (on the team). Senior Ian Wallace and junior Nick Martin will work the throws and sophomores Spencer Garland and Peter Brigham will be working the distance events. While we are a young team, there is a lot of quality for a small squad.”
On the girls side, Worthley said that like the boys, the Capers would be young, but strong. “Behind an all-star distance crew, senior Marita Stressenger, senior Erin Gross, sophomore Emily Atwood, freshman Rachel Nichols and junior Emma Hockmuth will lead a young vibrant sprint team,” Worthley said. “We also have to keep an eye on freshman Skyler Dunfey and sophomore Lexi Bass.”
