Ever wonder about the place names in Windham? The most well known are usually named for an early settler. For example, Chute Road, Swett Road, Cook Road and Pope Road are all named for early settlers. This week’s photo is of J.M. White, a lumbering merchant and well-to-do early entrepreneur in Windham and North Gorham. The White family left their mark forever by the name of the road that led to their homes, settlement and even a cemetery: White’s Bridge Road. Photo courtesy of Windham Historical Society
