Trained volunteers from the Southern Maine Agency on Aging will be at the Scarborough Public Library, starting today and through next week, to help seniors enroll in Medicare’s new prescription drug plan, Medicare Part D.

Volunteers will be at the Library on December 8, 9, 12 and 16. An appointment is required. For more information or to make an appointment, please call the Library at 883-4723 and ask for the reference desk.

Beginning January 1, 2006, Medicare will help pay for prescription drugs. Medicare recipients must choose between several prescription plans that offer various types of coverage. The initial enrollment period ends May 15, 2006 and eligible enrollees who do not join a plan by that date may be charged a penalty when they join later.
