A Rock Music Camp for children ages 8-13 will be held Aug. 13-17 from 12:30-3 p.m. (full day/before and after care available) at Fiddlehead Center for Arts and Science in Gray. Sampson Air Force Veterans Association to Meet
The August get-together of the Southern Maine Squadron of the Sampson Air Force Veterans Association will be Thursday, Aug. 9, at noon at the Village Inn, 165 High St., Auburn.
This is an informal get-together of veterans who went to Sampson for training and their guests. The location was Sampson Naval Training Center 1942-1945 and Sampson Air Force Base 1950-1956.
All veterans, and their guests are welcome to join the group. The group gets together through the summer months on the second Thursday of the month. They hope to see some new faces from the Lewiston-Auburn area.

Annual Gray Fire and Rescue Chicken BBQ
The 47th Annual Fire and Rescue Chicken BBQ is Saturday, Aug. 4. They will start serving at noon until sold out. The BBQ is located at 125 Shaker Road (Gray Central Station). The dinner includes a half-chicken with chips, slaw, roll and drink. Also, ladies from Pennell Alumni will be selling pies. Please come visit them early as the chicken is sure to sell out.
Free Movies at the Library
This summer the Gray Public Library, Hancock Street in Gray, will be showing a free movie each Thursday at 2 p.m. On Aug. 2, “ET the Extraterrestrial” will be the featured film. Youth Archery and Annual Pow Wow
On Saturday, Aug, 4, at the Maine Wildlife Park, Route 26 in Gray, join Jerome and Tina Richards of Maine Bow Association Youth Archery, certified firearm, bow and crossbow hunter safety instructors, for some hands-on fun with archery. The Richards will provide instruction, set up archery targets, and have a variety of bows for you to try out from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. FMI, www.mainebowhunters.org.
On the following weekend, Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug. 12, the Native American Pow Wow – Honor The Animals annual event takes place.
Representatives of several Maine and New England tribes will be at the park for two full days with native dancers, drummers, craft vendors, singers and traditional food booths. Grand entry both Saturday and Sunday at 12 noon. This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about Maine’s native American culture and heritage. (All day, rain or shine). Free Lunch for Kids
Free summer lunches will be provided for children ages 18 and under Monday through Friday, until Aug. 17. There will be two locations to go to; G-NG High School from 11:30 a.m. -noon or the Liberty Family Foundation site on Raymond Road in Gray (across from St. Gregory’s Church) from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. All meals must be eaten on-site. The program is made possible by Preble Street Maine Initiative, MSAD 15, Liberty Family Foundation and the RSU 16 School Food Service.
Hunts Hill Road Closure
The Maine Turnpike Authority is advising motorists of the upcoming closure of Hunts Hill Road in Gray. The bridge will close for approximately 10 weeks starting on July 23 to ensure worker and motorist safety while general maintenance and repairs are completed. Lane Construction Corp. based in Bangor will repair the concrete bridge abutments, back walls and parapets.
Electronic message boards will be in place advising drivers of the road closure and project length.
G-NG Patriot Lacrosse Camp
This is a new sport in the community and parents are encourage to bring interested children to the camp to introduce them to this fun, fast-paced spring sport. This camp is for boys and girls entering grades 3-8, Aug. 6 through Aug. 10, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $26 if you have a stick or $57 (includes a stick and ball). The Lead Coach is Mike Foster.

Hot Dogs and Beans
The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 86 will hold its monthly Bean Supper at 15 Lewiston Road in Gray on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. On the menu are pea and kidney beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads, pie, coffee and punch.

Summer Book Sale
The Gray Public Library Summer Book Sale will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and is sponsored by the Gray Public Library Association. Hardcover books for adults are $1, while paperbacks are 50 cents. Kids hard covers are 50 cents with paperbacks 25 cents. There will also be audio books, music, movies and puzzles, etc. for sale.
Give Blood
Crossroads Community Church, 14 Lewiston Road in Gray, will be the site for the next Community Blood Drive. It will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 1 to 6 p.m.
