Saturday, May 4: Friends Church on Route 202 in Windham is hosting a baked bean supper on Saturday, May 4, from 5-6:30 p.m. Baked beans, brown bread, salads, pies, coffee and punch. $7 for adults and $1 for children under 12.

May 4: Veterans Adaptive Sports & Training (VAST) is holding a kick-off event from 1-4 p.m. at Pineland in New Gloucester for a new cycling program. Free to all veterans dealing with physical disabilities, TBI and PTSD. Please bring your own bikes if you have one. Otherwise, cycles (hand-powered and recumbent, as well) will be provided courtesy of Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation. The weekly cycling program runs Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-noon every week May 8-June 12. Meet at Outdoor Center at Pineland Farms, 15 Farm View Dr., New Gloucester.

Tuesday, May 7: Windham’s Monthly Grief Support meeting hosted by the VNA Home Health & Hospice will be discussing

“Coping with Family Gatherings” from 6-7:30 p.m. at North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail, Route 302, Windham. This is an open group for anyone grieving the death of a loved one. Wednesday, May 8: The Raymond Village Library hosts Maine author, Carol Lilleqvist Welsh, who will read passages from her memoir, “360 Square”. In her book Welsh discusses the importance of adoption in her life and how she overcame a difficult childhood. The program will begin at 6 p.m. and those interested are asked to pre-register at the library on 3 Meadow Road, Raymond, or by calling the library at 655-4283, or email at [email protected].

Friday, May 10: Rep. Christine Powers, D-Naples, will hold office hours at the Black Bear Cafe? in Naples from 2-4 p.m. Powers is serving her first term in the Legislature and represents Casco, Naples and part of Poland.

May 10-11: Unity of Greater Portland, 54 River Road, Windham, will be holding their annual giant yard sale from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, May 10, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday May 11. In past years, huge crowds have found lots of unexpected treasures among the truckloads of articles offered by the Unity congregation. Come early for the best opportunities. Saturday, May 11: Electronic Recycling at Windham Mall, sponsored by the Windham Hill UCC. All towns can participate. Donations accepted to cover cost of organizing the event and to fund support of local mission needs. Event runs 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Enter mall at Veterans Memorial Drive next to Friendly’s. The following items can be recycled: TVs all sizes, computer monitors, hard drives, laptops, printers, cordless phones, cell phones, VCRs, DVD, audio equipment, stereos, speakers. No household appliances (stoves, refrigerators, microwaves).

May 11: From 2:30-4:30 p.m., the Windham Active Lifestyles Coalition (WALC) is hosting a free Bike and Walk Fun Day at the Mountain Division Trail in Windham (beginning at the Gambo Road parking lot). WALC members want to celebrate National Bike Month and the arrival of the biking and walking season by inviting neighbors to enjoy the Mountain Division Trail. The ride and walk starts at 2:30, with several distance options. There will be bike gear giveaways from the Opportunity Alliance, bike/walk safety guides from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and healthy snacks.
