King’s Pines at the Library

Learn all about the “King’s Pines” at Windham Public Library on Saturday, April 4, at 9:30 p.m. The program, The King’s Pine: Colonial Mast Trade and the Seeds of Rebellion, is a production of Windham Historical Society. Other events at the library from March 30-April 3 include Story Time at 10:30 a.m. Monday and Thursday, Books & Babies at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday and a Book Group meeting at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Legion Meets

American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 1, at the Windham Veterans Center. A social and dinner will be held at 5 p.m. followed by business meeting at 6 p.m. Key business is election of Post officers for 2015-16 and preparations for Memorial Day events.

Chamber Singers Concert

The Windham Chamber Singers will perform in concert on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the North Windham Union Church showcasing their spring tour program. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $12 for adults and $10 for students, children, and seniors. The box office opens at 6:15. The church is located at 723 Roosevelt Trail in Windham. This concert is the 22nd in the Music with a Mission series sponsored by the North Windham Union Church, which help community groups. A portion of the proceeds will support Windham Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

April Community Calendar

Windham School Age Child Care Program is now selling raffles for the April community calendar. You may purchase the whole calendar for $25 or any days for $1 each. This will be on sale through March. For more information, call Donna Cobb at 892-2002.

WSACC is also holding a RADA Cutlery fundraiser. According to Donna Cobb, this fundraiser has an Internet feature in which you may place orders and they will be delivered directly to you. Go to helpourfundraiser.com, ordering number is 505348 and password is wrsacc2015. Catalog orders will also be taken at the Windham/Raymond sites from April 1-18. Internet ordering ends on May 31. Dancing with the Staff

The finale of “Dancing with the Staff” will be on Wednesday, April 15, at 7 p.m. at Windham Performing Arts Center. The event supports Project Graduation 2015. Tickets are available at all RSU 14 schools. Adults are $10 and students are $5. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door. This event is always a sellout, so plan to purchase your tickets now.

Veteran Service Officer

Matt Haley, VSO, will not be available at the Windham Veterans Center until April when he will resume office hours on the second and fourth Wednesdays.

Cancer Support Group Meets

The Windham Cancer Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, at Windham Public Library for its monthly meeting. This will be an informal meeting spent sharing experiences and becoming acquainted. The mission to provide support and education for all cancer victims, cancer survivors and caregivers of anyone dealing with cancer. For more information, check Facebook.

Medicare Help

On Tuesdays, April 7 and 21, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer Medicare help in the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. A “Welcome to Medicare” seminar is scheduled from 10 a.m.-noon. In addition to the seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m.-noon. Call the Southern Maine Agency on Aging to register for the seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Seminar walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Further opportunities for these services will occur at the same location in May. Marriage Intentions

Recent marriage intentions filed in the office of the town clerk include Kevin Clark and Brianna Schoen, Robert Dow and Susan Wheeler, and Daniel Stone and Lauren McNorton.

Church Auction

Unity of Greater Portland is holding a silent auction with proceeds dedicated to complete the Unity Light Tower, originally envisioned by the building’s founders in 1992.

The doors open on Friday, March 27, at 6 p.m. Bidding begins at 6:30 in three 15-minute sessions, with 15 minutes in between to enjoy conversation, light hors-d’oeuvres and desserts.

Winners of each session will be announced prior to the start of the next one. More than 70 auction items were donated including guided hikes, a hemlock wood picnic table, massage, private yoga lessons, watercolor paintings, pet grooming/walking, knitting lessons, writing workshops, private nutrition consultation and a day trip to Walden Pond/tour of the Ralph Waldo Emerson House. Payments of cash, personal check, and credit card accepted.

After the final bids are in, attendees will delight in the antics of The Portland Playback Theatre Company until 9:30 p.m. This highly acclaimed Maine-based improvisation company uses real-life stories spontaneously shared by members of the audience for the basis of their skits. Pork Loin Dinner

The Windham Lions Club will hold a full course pork loin dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Windham Veterans Center. Tickets are $10 per person with discounts for senior citizens and children. In addition, 50/50 tickets will be sold. All proceeds will be donated to the Toby’s Dream Project to pave the driveway and parking lot at Windham Veterans Center.
