The Pownal Board of Selectmen will meet Monday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.
The Planning Board will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall. Planning Board workshops will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14 and 28, at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall. The workshops will focus on single lot and back lot ordinances
Fire-rescue set
open house
Pownal Fire & Rescue will be hosting its annual open house on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The department’s trucks will be open for display and touring. Residents are invite to come and learn about fire prevention and safety, try on some firefighter gear and spend some time with Sparky the Fire Dog. There will hot dogs, cookies, cupcakes, etc.
Public supper

The First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Road, Pownal, will be hosting a baked bean and spaghetti supper on Saturday, Oct. 17, with settings at 5 and at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8, $4 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5. To reserve your tickets, call Lois at 688-4433.
Folk dancing
Sunday at
town hall
Traditional folk dancing featuring music from around the world will be held Sunday, Oct. 18, from 6-9 p.m., at Mallett Hall, 429 Hallowell Road.
Events begin with a potluck supper. Participants should bring a favorite easy food to share and their own place setting.
At 7, music and dance from many world cultures gets under way, including Balkan, English, French, Israeli and others. Mixed-level dances will be taught, followed by requests.
The event is free for first-timers. For others, the suggested donation is $5, $3 for children and $12 for a family. It is sponsored by Pownal/Portland International Folk Dancers. For more information, call 688-2293 or email [email protected].

gospel singers
The Dartts, a gospel music group based in California, will be in concert at the First Parish Congregational Church on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. The Dartts, now in their 20th year as a full-time, family singing group, began in June 1995. Team boosters

Open mic night

The next music night at Fuego Diablo, 52 Loring Lane, Pownal, is on Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 5:30 p.m. All ages and genres are welcome, especially songs and stories of monsters and ghosts and scary tales. Food pantry on Wednesdays
The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.
Men’s breakfast
First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a Men’s Breakfast the first Saturday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at the church, open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

North Pownal United Methodist Church worship service is Sunday at 9 a.m. Sunday School for children and adults is at 10:30 a.m.

The First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9, worship service is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages is 11 a.m.-noon. Bible Study meets at the church on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Choir has started and anyone wishing to join is welcome to come to rehearsals on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. For more information, call the Rev.
