Vehicle burglaries persist in Cape
Cape Elizabeth Police department administration report there have been 17 day-time vehicle burglaries since Nov. 20. “We’re really getting killed by ’em,” said Capt. Brent Sinclair. The burglaries, mostly take place in parking lots, between noon and 7 p.m. said Sinclair. Sinclair said police have a few suspects, and believe it could be the same group of people connected to the string of burglaries.
On Dec. 23, 11:32 p.m., I, Sergeant Kennedy, was dispatched to the area of Bowery Beach Road near Crescent Beach State Park for the report of a vehicle off the road. Upon arrival I met with the 17-year-old operator. The road conditions were very poor with slush on the roadway and ice on the shoulder. In the course of speaking with the operator, I detected an odor of liquor from his breath. As a result, I issued him a summons for operating beyond license restrictions due to the zero tolerance violation. His vehicle was towed. His father came and retrieved him.
On Dec. 23 at about 9:23 p.m., Sergeant Steindl and I, Sergeant Kennedy, responded to a report of a vehicle speeding and attempting to go airborne over a rise in the roadway off of Route 77. Upon arrival, a witness provided us with a vehicle description and license plate number. The registered owner, a Portland resident, was contacted. She instructed her 17-year-old son
to come to the Cape Elizabeth Police Department. As a result, he was issued a summons for driving to endanger.
On Dec. 24 at 1:48 a.m., I, Sergeant Kennedy, observed a vehicle parked in front of a local business. As a result of checking on the vehicle, Cape Elizabeth resident Brian Cunningham, 20, was issued a summons for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and possession of a fictitious operator’s license.
On Dec. 24, I, Sergeant Fay, met with a resident of Yarmouth regarding a motor vehicle burglary that occurred at Two Lights State Park. Taken was a purse that contained some cash, and several credit cards.
On Dec. 24 at 5:20 p.m., I, Sergeant Kennedy, met with a resident of the Spurwink Avenue area regarding a motor vehicle burglary that occurred at a church parking lot. Taken was a purse that contained a wallet, several credit cards and some cash.
On Dec. 26 at or about 7:37 a.m., I, Captain Sinclair, spoke with a resident of the Shore Road area regarding damage done to his mailbox during the night.
On Dec. 26 at or about 12:30 p.m., I, Captain Sinclair, met with a resident of Shore Road regarding his dog killing an opossum. The opossum was secured for testing and a 45-day quarantine notice was issued for the dog.
On Dec. 26 at 10:13 p.m. I, Sergeant Kennedy, was dispatched to Cheverus Road for the report of a hit and run accident involving a motor vehicle vs. a telephone pole. A description of the vehicle and what had happened was obtained from a witness. At 11:30 p.m., Sergeant Steindl located the vehicle parked in a driveway on McAuley Road. Sergeant Steindl made contact with the owner of the vehicle, Alban Dobra of Windham and issued a summons
for failing to report the accident.
On Dec. 27, I, Officer Gaudette met with a resident of Portland regarding a motor vehicle burglary at Two Lights State Park. Taken from the vehicle was a backpack that contained a wallet.
On Dec. 27, I, Sergeant Fay met with a resident of the Shore Road area regarding the fraudulent use of a credit card. The card company is aware and has opened an investigation into the matter.
On Dec. 27, I, Officer Westberry, met with a resident of the Scott Dyer Road area regarding a motor vehicle burglary at Kettle Cove. Taken from the vehicle was a purse that contained some cash, credit cards, checkbook, four videos, and other miscellaneous items.
On Dec. 28 Officer Westburry and I, Officer Gaudette, responded to a domestic dispute in the Spurwink Avenue area. Upon arrival, contact was made with the parties involved. The altercation was verbal only. One party made arrangements to leave for the night.
On Dec. 29 at about 7:17 p.m., I, Officer Westburry, met with a resident of the Ocean House Road area regarding drug paraphernelia found in his son’s room.
On Dec. 30 at approximately 2:40 p.m., I, Officer Thompson, met with a resident of the Old Ocean House Road area regarding a dog-at-large complaint. The owner of the dog was identified and issued a summons.
On Dec. 30 at approximately 9:26 p.m., I, Patrolman Thompson, met with a resident of the Mitchell Road area who reported that upon answering a knock at the door, the subject pushed the door striking the complainant. The complainant used a self-defense spray on the intruder, and then called police. The intruder fled.
On Dec. 30, I, Detective Fenton, met with a resident of the Cross Hill area regarding a possible credit card fraud complaint.
On Dec. 31 at approximately 3 p.m., I, Officer Thompson, met with a Kansas resident at Fort Williams Park where his vehicle had been burglarized. The side window had been smashed. A purse and camera were taken from the vehicle.

James Gannon, 18, of 4 Gordons Lane, Cape Elizabeth, was summoned on Belfield Road for illegal possession of alcohol.
Gordon McGrath, 18, of 6 Winding Way Cape Elizabeth was summoned on Belfield Road for illegal possession of alcohol.
John Malcolm, 20, of 35 Park Circle Cape Elizabeth was summoned on Belfield Road for illegal possession of alcohol.
Patrick Kertes, 19, of 74 Wells Road Cape Elizabeth, was summoned on Belfield Road for illegal possession of alcohol.
Garretson Currier, 18, of 18 Belfield Road, Cape Elizabeth, was summoned on Belfield Road for illegal transportation of liquor.
Meredith Beauregrad, 26, of 4 Cherrywood Lane, Falmouth, was summoned on Sawyer Road for speeding 41 in a 30 mph zone.
Dec. 30
Turid Eiesland, 47, of 117 Old Ocean House Road, Cape Elizabeth, was issued a citation on Old Ocean House Road for a dog at large.
Dec. 31
Conor Casey, 19, of 28 Algonquin Road, Cape Elizabeth, was issued a summons on Bowery Beach Road for possession of marijuana.
Rory Hannon, 19, of 260 Fowler Road, Cape Elizabeth, was issued a summons on Bowery Beach Road for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Fire and Rescue
The Cape Elizabeth rescue responded to six calls between Dec. 27 and Dec. 31. Four patients were transported to Maine Medical Center, and two required no transport.
The Cape Elizabeth Fire Department responded to an alarm activation on Scott Dyer Road at 5:03 a.m. on Dec. 27; a South Portland call at 8:51 a.m. on Dec. 27; a water problem on Beach Bluff Terrace at 3:54 p.m. on Dec. 27; an investigation on Shore Road at 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 28; and a fire alarm on Shore Road at 11:13 p.m. on Dec. 29.
