A group analyzing the possibility a fee system for Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth will meet for the first time on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Formed by the town council, the group is charged with further exploring the pay/display fee system, one of five options presented by the Fort Williams advisory commission.

They are responsible for analyzing various elements of the pay/display fee system, including where meters would be located, when visitors would pay, who would pay, how much and how the fee would effect the community.

The group was formed in mid-April and is made up of three councilors, Mary Ann Lynch, Mike Mowles, Anne Swift-Kayatta; three members of the Fort Williams Advisory Commission, Ellen Nadeau, Tina Harnden, Chuck Wilson and two Cape residents: William Nickerson and Michelle Taylor. They have until June 5 to report back to the council, at which time the council plans to schedule a public hearing.

If the pay/display system were adopted, parking ticket dispensers would be located in the lots. Park users would insert cash or possibly a credit card, receive a ticket and place it on their dashboard or somewhere visible for park staff to see.
