Fundraising help needed

The Academic Decathlon team at Scarborough High School, which recently won its 10th state title, needs help in order to get to Honolulu, Hawaii for the national competition, which will be held April 24-26.

This week a member of the Board of Education plans to request a vote on using up to $2,000 of the school department’s contingency fund to help pay for the nine members and their coaches to get to Hawaii, according to Superintendent George Entwistle.

The school board was scheduled to review the request for trip funding during its meeting on Thursday, April 3, at 5 p.m., which is after the Current’s print deadline.

Coach Shane Davis said the Academic Decathlon team is about $4,500 short of its goal, even though some of the families have now offered to pay their own children’s way. An action that Davis said “is very appreciated.”

Online fundraising is also still available www.youcaring.com/other/help-shs-academic-decathlon-team-get-to-nationals-/107925.
