While she battles back from a serious knee injury, Gorham three-sport standout star Rachele Burns has soccer on her mind. Burns, a junior who was named the 2007 Gatorade Maine Girls Soccer Player of the Year after scoring 18 goals and tallying nine assists and leading the Rams to a third consecutive state championship, plans to be back on the field this fall to help Gorham extend its 53-game winning streak. “I’ll be back,” Burns said. “It will be interesting to see what happens next year because we’ve got a big target on our backs.”

Rehab

While she may not be on the field this spring, Goham junior Rachele Burns is still working hard in the gym to rehab after undergoing knee surgery to repair a torn ACL she suffered on the basketball court in January. Burns, a three-sport star who was averaging over 25 points per game for the Rams’ basketball team when she was injured, will likely miss the upcoming softball season. But Burns, the SMAA 2007 defensive player of the year at shortstop, isn’t abandoning her teammates. She plans on helping out the team however she can this season. “I might end up being the first-base coach, or just helping out at practice when I’m not at physical therapy,” she said.
