It was five years ago this month that Current Publishing first opened it’s doors in a small office on the second floor at the Oak Hill Plaza. At that time, we had one newspaper, the Current, and six employees. We started the company on a dream, a lot of hard work and fingers crossed that we would be well received in the homes and in the hearts of Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth residents. Thankfully, we were.

Now, after just five years, we’ve added seven more newspapers to our company, and about 50 more employees. If I only knew then, what I know now!

It’s been a wild and exciting ride, and I’m thrilled to say we have only just begun. Every day we come to work with a renewed sense of commitment to bringing all of our local readers the most important news and information from their local communities – plus, a variety of feature stories, updates, letters, columns and the best in local advertising. I want to say thank you for continuing to read the papers and for continuing to support us through sending letters and emails. Please continue to do this.

Over time, as the company has grown, it has become increasingly difficult to manage six different offices. After careful consideration, we have recently decided to combine all of our Cumberland County offices into one big office, located on Main Street in Westbrook. Please don’t be offended that we are leaving Scarborough. I love Scarborough. I have lived in this town for 17 years, I have children in the public schools here, I socialize and shop here. And, please remember that the news does not happen in the newsroom. We will continue to have full-time reporters on the ground in Scarborough, full-time advertising representatives and other full time staffers who sit on various boards and remain active in community organizations. And, most importantly, we have you – our readers – who keep us in touch with all the different elements of our community.
